Reasons For Which You Should Avoid Ventless Range Hoods
Ventless range hoods do not have vents but they remove the steam as well as the kitchen impurities which are made as a product of cooking. It works with the help of different types of filters; mostly electrostatic filters are being used to collect the particles. Charcoal filters are also used to reduce cooking odors.
The vent less range hoods have grease filters and in addition to this they are also usually provided by charcoal filters and sometimes they are even fitted with glass fiber filters. Both these filters are inexpensive and can be changed after a certain time. But the overall performance of a vent less hood is poor compared to a duct hood. It is but a cheaper chimney and also an easier one of assemble.
The charcoal filters which are used in vent less range hoods, are very difficult to maintain and until needs regular replacement because, unless and until you have a good filter it is going to throw out grease and oil all around the kitchen without recycling it. Although it is supposed to move the smoke and odor but compared to the ducted hood, a vent less one does not necessarily remove the heated air as well as the steam from the food or the kitchen and so the cooling effect which it is supposed to give out isn’t really there.
Moreover maintenance is a huge problem because you have to replace the carbon filters every three to four months. Since there is no outside vent all of the air is again released back into the kitchen. Moreover when you are using the carbon or the charcoal filters the range hood will emit quite a lot of noise.
If you do not replace the filter ultimately, the grease and the odor will go back inside your home and you will not be able to protect your home from all of the impure air. But the venting range hoods are a lot more effective when it comes to removing grease and cooking fumes from your kitchen.
The only thing that the vent less range hood is going to do is to keep the smoke away from your face while you cook. Since the steam is circulated back inside the house you have to keep a window open so that these fumes can leave the house and to keep the kitchen clean.

Travel Trailers – Low Cost RVing in Luxury
If you have always wanted to own an RV but the cost scared you off, travel trailers may be the option you are looking for. The prices can start as low as $20,000 for a brand new (but basic) trailer and the ultra deluxe travel trailers can be purchased for under $100,000. This is much less than most of the motorized RVs you will find on the road. Here is some information about travel trailers that you might find helpful in your search for the perfect recreational vehicle:
Length: These trailers usually range in length from about 15 feet to around 30 feet with some exceptions. Length is an important consideration based on where you will be using your travel trailer and also storing it.
Features: The most basic trailer will have a small kitchen area with a cook top and a sink and small refrigerator. As you get into the pricier models you may find a full stove and a large fridge and maybe even a dishwasher. Most travel trailers don’t have bedding for more than 2 to 4 people but they usually offer a queen size bed. Bath area may just be a shower and a toilet or it may have a small tub and sink as well. The higher-end models will have more entertainment options as well including stereos, DVD players and large televisions. The price you pay for travel trailers really can make a difference in the features available to you.
Towing: In order to tow travel trailers you will need to make sure that your vehicle is rated to carry the extra weight of the trailer when it is loaded and the gas tank is full. For some of the longer trailers you will need a truck or SUV, but some of the smaller trailers may be pulled by a small truck or mid-size car. The tow hitch and stabilizers you use should also be rated for the weight of the trailer.
Maneuverability: Find out about any special regulations on towing travel trailers in the locations where you will be using the trailer. You should also test yourself before you buy, on moving the trailer around. Most travel trailers have safety features to help prevent swaying but it is still different than driving a car without towing something behind it.
A towable RV is a great option for those who are just starting in the RV market and are not sure if they want something really big, but they want something comfortable. They are good for weekend trips or cross-country camping expeditions. Families with young children and older couples enjoying retirement will find things to appeal to them. Take a look!
How to Build a Dining Table – Easy Tips and Things to Consider
Dining room are one of my favorite places in the house. This is usually where we enjoy our meals as a family. This is where we entertain our guests with sumptuous food and this is where most of the important conversation takes place.
Therefore, I find it imperative that the dining room should be set in style. That’s why when I began my hobby of woodworking, I’ve been wanting to learn how to build a dining table.
And build it I did. I’ve learned many things in the process of building it. Tips which I’m about to share in this article.
First off you need to consider which material you are going to use to build a dining table. Wood and metal are commonly used for table legs while glass, wood and granite are the common material used for tabletops.
Next, you have to consider the dimension of the table you are planning to build. The size of the table should compliment the space on your dining room. It should also provide enough space for the diners to move about.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the individual parts of the table like the leg, apron and tabletop should be in proportion to each other. You cannot have a tabletop that’s too thick nor can you build a sturdy dining table with a too thin legs. It should come off together well.
If you are using wood, you must also decide on the finishing you are going to use. To have a more durable and easy to clean dining table, you can use levels of clear coats. But, this is really up to you as you may also want to keep in mind the general “look” of the dining area and consider the finishing used on other furnishing in the house.
Lastly, the design of the dining table is a blend of all the things we’ve tackled previously. I suggest, you work with a good table plan in building a dining table. You can easily customize the plan yourself but you have the advantage of having a step-by-step instruction and pictures to make everything clear. This way, mistakes are prevented and you get to avoid the unnecessary delay and frustration in building a dining table.
Passive Solar Home Heating – Free Heat From the Sun
Who doesn’t like the idea of free energy? Passive solar home heating provides just that, and it’s probably not what you think.
Mention solar energy to most people and they think of complicated photovoltaic systems with batteries or inverters and such.
Passive solar energy couldn’t be further from that.
At its simplest, passive solar home heating requires no equipment at all. The only requirement is planning.
Before the days of readily available central heating, passive solar design was much more common. Roman builders planned many of their buildings to take advantage of warmth from the sun. For centuries, people looked to the sun as a source of light and heat. As it became easier and cheaper to heat homes with fuel, people felt less need to use the warmth of the sun.
Another reason passive solar home heating fell from favor is that optimal solar design is very site specific. It needs to take into account the orientation of the sun and the local climate. This means it’s unlikely that a house plan picked from a catalog will work well on a given site.
Having said that, the principle of passive solar design is simplicity itself: capture the sun’s heat during the day and store it for use at night.
The greenhouse effect makes this possible. Window glass is very transparent to sunlight. When that light strikes an interior surface, it warms the surface generating heat. The glass traps that heat and as a result the interior warms.
If you’ve ever gotten into a car that had the windows closed on a sunny day, you know how warm it can get. That’s the green house effect
If there is something with a lot of “thermal mass”, such as a stone wall or a concrete floor, in the house, it will gradually warm up during the day and then release that heat at night. The slow absorption of heat by the thermal mass also keeps the home from overheating during the day.
The main requirement for passive solar home heating is that the sun gets in the house in the first place. Since in the northern hemisphere the sun is in the south, to take advantage of solar heating most of the windows in a home should be on the south side and relatively few on the north.
Details of the design depend such things as size of the house, the exact longitude of the location, desired views, possible sources of shade, and so forth. Solar designers have some rules of thumb they use, but ideally every design is specific for its site.
Even if you’re not building a home from scratch you can still take some advantage of the suns heat by keeping the curtains open on the south side of your house during the day and keeping them closed on the north as much as possible.
Better yet, if you’re considering new window treatments, install insulated shades. These significantly decrease heat loss through the windows when the sun isn’t shining.
Again, raise them in the south in the morning and lower them at night.
With increasing energy prices and concern for the environment, were seeing a resurgence of interest in passive solar home heating – free energy from the sun.
